MEN'S TENNIS FALLS 6-1 AT UAB

BIRMINGHAM – After winning the doubles point, UAB won five of the six singles matches to pick up a 6-1 home victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team on Sunday. With the loss, UNA falls to 0-4 on the season while the Blazers even their record at 1-1.
 
UAB had to rally to win the doubles point after the Lions recorded a victory at the No. 2 position. Chris Zhang and Jamir Bixby posted the 6-0 win. The Blazers, however, preceded to win at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots to grab the overall lead.
 
In singles play, UAB clinched with wins at No. 4, No. 2 and No. 1. After falling in the opening set, UNA's Fernando Herrera lost a 7-6 decision, including an 8-6 tiebreaker for the clinching point.
 
Victories at No. 3 and No. 6 extended the Blazers' lead to 6-0 before Guilherme Diniz earned a point for the Lions. The sophomore from Manaus, Brazil, rallied from a 7-5 defeat in the opening set. His 6-4 victory forced a tiebreaker, which he won 13-11.
 
UNA will play at Mississippi State on Feb. 3. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss.
