UNA MEN DROP ASUN OPENER AT LIPSCOMB

NASHVILLE, Tenn., – Ahsan Asadullah scored 30 points to lead Lipscomb to an 84-74 home victory over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Tuesday evening in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams. With the loss, UNA falls to 7-7 on the season and begins league play with an 0-1 mark.
 
Asadullah was dominant in the paint from the opening tip, connecting on 13-of-21 attempts from the floor. As a team, the Bisons hit 54.5 percent of their shots and also held a 41-34 rebounding advantage on the night.
 
Lipscomb led 41-31 at the break and extended the lead to as many as 17 points midway through the second half. A transition basket gave the Bisons a 67-50 lead with 8:49 remaining.
 
North Alabama responded with a 13-2 run to stay within striking distance. A three-point basket by Detalian Brown cut the deficit to 69-63 at the 6:48 mark and the Lions had a chance to pull closer after a defensive stop.
 
UNA, however, missed its next four shots from the floor as the home team responded with five straight points. Back-to-back three-pointers by Jamari Blackmon and C.J. Brim later cut the lead to 76-69 with 2:51 to play, but the Lions would get no closer.
 
Blackmon, who came off the bench to play in his 100th game for UNA, led the team with 22 points. The total moved him into the Top 10 on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,222 career points. Brim also finished with 14 points for the Lions.
 
UNA will host Jacksonville State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
