LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of North Alabama women's cross country team finished 36th in the 5k Gold Division of the Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Parker.
UNA finished with a 904 team total.
Furman won the Division with a 44.
Janeth Jepkirui finished 108th individually to lead UNA. She had a time of 18:10.2. UNA's top five finishers included
Beth Ann Tucker at 131st (18:17.4),
Gracie Mathews at 235th (19:00.3),
Mandaline Thomas in 251st (19:05.0) and
Ashlyn Anderson at 259th (19:10.9).
"In a very competitive field, the women did a good job of competing from start to finish," said UNA head coach
Jeremy Provence. "A race of this caliber can be overwhelming, especially in the first half when the race is so congested. It is a lot to manage but I am happy with how they handled the situation.
"Janeth stepped up and had a great race," Provence continued. "She got out to a good start and was strong throughout. Her performance was big for the team. Mandaline ran her best race of the season, probably of her career at North Alabama. It is great watching her gain confidence with each race and was a great boost for the team today."
