BALANCED ATTACKED LEADS LIONS PAST LA VERNE 104-56

FLORENCE – Seven players reached double figures in scoring as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team recorded a 104-56 win over La Verne Sunday evening at Flowers Hall. The win gives the Lions a 2-1 record on the season.

UNA outscored the visitors in each quarter, shooting 48.7 percent from the floor with 14 made three-point baskets. Freshman Emma Kate Tittle led all scorers with 19 points for the Lions.

After outscoring La Verne 27-16 in the first quarter, UNA led by only nine points midway through the second fame after a basket by the Leopards made the score 39-30 with 4:26 remaining in the half.

La Verne would not score again in the half. A basket by Rhema Pegues on the ensuing possession started a 12-0 UNA run. A trey by Tittle in the final minute gave the Lions a 51-30 lead at the break.

The third quarter proved to be the most dominant for the Lions, who shot 12-of-22 in the frame with five three-point baskets. La Verne made just five shots from the floor and trailed 84-44 heading into the final period.

The lead only grew in the fourth quarter. Cameron Jones converted a three-point play with a basket and free throw at the 7:00 mark to make the score 92-44. The Lions then eclipsed the century mark on a three-pointer by Pegues with 1:39 remaining. The shot gave UNA a 102-52 lead.

Jade Moore added 15 points for the Lions. Clutter added 13 points and nine rebounds while Skyler Gill had 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Jones finished with 11 points. Alexis Callins and Pegues rounded out the top scorers for North Alabama with 10 points each. Pegues, a freshman from Olive Branch, Miss., also completed a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds.

UNA will travel to Southern Mississippi on Friday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on the USM campus in Hattiesburg, Miss.
