UNA MEN FALL AT GEORGIA TECH

FLORENCE – Georgia Tech used a fast start to help build a 43-24 lead at the half, then maintained a double-digit lead over the final 20 minutes Saturday in an 80-61 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team. With the loss, UNA falls to 4-3 on the season.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored the game's first 11 points and never trailed on the day. Facing the early deficit, the Lions answered with a 9-0 spurt of their own. Consecutive baskets by KJ Johnson made the score 11-9, but UNA could never pull even.
 
Georgia Tech led 43-24 at the break. Both teams then scored 37 points in the second half. UNA could get no closer than 16 points down the stretch.
 
UNA shot 33.3 percent in the first half while the home team went 18-of-31 (58.1 percent) from the floor in the game's opening 20 minutes.
 
In the second half, Georgia Tech led by as many as 25 points. A jumper with 15:06 remaining gave the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 54-29. The Lions answered with a three-pointer by Johnson on the ensuing possession.
 
UNA cut the deficit to 16 three times down the stretch. A steal and layup by Detalian Brown made the score 70-54 with 5:21 remaining. The Lions would get no closer.
 
Three players reached double figures for the Lions, including Bryson Dawkins' team-high 12 points. Daniel Braster also just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Johnson rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 10 points.
 
The UNA men will play at Memphis on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the FedEx Forum.
