FOURTH-RANKED OHIO STATE PULLS AWAY LATE FROM UNA WOMEN

COLUMBUS, Ohio, – Five players reached double figures in scoring and fourth-ranked Ohio State was able to pull away for a 105-67 home win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team on Sunday. With the loss, UNA falls to 3-3 on the season.
 
Following a tightly-contested opening period, the Buckeyes used a big second quarter to take control of the game. OSU then outscored the Lions by eight points in each of the final two frames.
 
Late in the first, basket by Skyler Gill tied the game at 22-22. OSU, however, closed the period on a 6-0 run to take a 28-26 lead into the first break.
 
Two quick baskets by the home team quickly pushed the lead to 10 points to open the second quarter of play. UNA got a jumper by Alexis Callins to cut the deficit to 32-24, and later trailed by 10 following a basket by Emma Kate Tittle with 6:49 remaining in the half.
 
The Buckeyes answered with an 11-0 run, including three-point baskets on three consecutive possessions to grab a 51-50 lead. A three-pointer by Hina Suzuki at the 4:01 mark broke up the run, but the home team pushed the lead to 22 points by the end of the period. A basket at the buzzer gave Ohio State a 59-37 lead at the half.
 
The two teams traded runs over the final two quarters. Five straight points by Jade Moore made the score 64-47 midway through the third quarter. Ohio State, however, got a trey on the ensuing possession and pushed the lead to 81-51 by the end of the period.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lions got within 27, but could get no closer. After a jumper by Gill with 7:50 remaining made the score 83-56, the Buckeyes reeled off a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach.
 
Gill finished the game with a double-double, including 23 points and 12 rebounds. She added five assists and three blocked shots on the day. Moore also turned in 19 points for the Lions.
 
Rebeka Mikulasikova led Ohio State (6-0) with 23 points on the day.
 
UNA will host Fisk on Sunday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
