FLORENCE – After trailing throughout the entire game, Lipscomb controlled the fourth quarter in a 70-59 ASUN Conference road win over the University of North Alabama women's basketball team on Saturday. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for UNA, which maintains second place in the ASUN West Division with 7-7 league record. The Lions fall to 12-14 overall.
On Saturday, UNA led by 10 points on two occasions in the first half but could never pull away. After UNA took a 30-26 lead into the half, a three-point basket by Julia Strachan gave the Lions a 46-38 lead with 3:12 remaining in the third quarter. The Bisons, however, closed the game on a 32-13 run.
UNA did not connect from the floor for the remainder of the period. A basket at the buzzer cut the deficit to 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter.
After the Lions stretched the lead back to 51-46, Lipscomb scored seven straight points to grab its first lead of the game. Two free throws by Strachan tied the game at 53-53, but UNA missed 10 straight shots from the floor as the visitors went ahead 61-53 with 2:16 remaining.
A basket by Skyler Gill at the 1:47 mark ended the drought but the Lions would get no closer. Lipscomb held a 26-12 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
The Bisons also controlled the glass, outrebounding UNA 41-29 and scoring 38 points in the paint.
Gill and Patrycja Jaworska led the Lions with 14 points each. Gill added 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Hina Suzuki added 11 points while Strachan also reached double figures with 10 points.
UNA will host Central Arkansas on Feb. 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
