UNA DROPS TWO BEACH MATCHES AT CHATTANOOGA

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team fell twice Thursday in a tri-match at Chattanooga. The Lions lost a 5-0 decision to UNC-Wilmington before coming up short 3-2 against the host Mocs. With the two losses, UNA falls to 5-3 on the season.

In the early match, four of the five matches went to a third set. The Lions came up short in each one. UNCW grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of three-set wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. A 21-19, 21-19 victory at No. 2 clinched the match for the Seahawks.

After the overall match was settled, UNCW picked up two more three-set victories, getting a 21-19, 19-21, 15-9 win at No. 3 and a 19-21, 21-14, 15-11 win at No. 1
Against Chattanooga, the two teams split the two matches at the bottom of the lineup before the Mocs clinched.

Lauren Quigley and Katie Gerig opened the match with a 21-18, 21-16 win at the No. 4 spot. Chattanooga evened the match at No. 5, then took a 2-1 lead with a victory at No. 2. A 21-13, 21-14 win at the top spot secured the overall win for the Mocs.

North Alabama wrapped up the scoring when Mackenzie Martin and Catie Ladner posted a 21-12, 19-21, 15-12 win at the No. 3 position.

UNA will travel to DeLand, Fla., to open ASUN Conference play on March 18. The Lions will take on Stetson at 8 a.m. (7 a.m. central). The team will then remain at the Stetson campus to play Palm Beach Atlantic at 11 a.m.
