BEACH VOLLEYBALL FALLS TWICE AT STETSON CHALLENGE

DELAND, Fla.,  – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team came up short twice on the opening day of the Stetson Challenge Friday, dropping a 5-0 decision to the host Hatters before falling 4-1 to Palm Beach Atlantic. The two losses leave UNA with a 5-5 record on the season.
 
In the opener against defending ASUN champion Stetson, the Lions were defeated in straight sets in all five matches. After the Hatters won both matches at the bottom of the lineup, a 21-9, 21-9 victory at the top spot clinched the overall win.
 
Stetson closed out the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
 
In the second match, PBA also took control with early wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 positions, including a three-set rally at the No. 4 spot. A 21-19, 21-18 victory at No. 2 clinched the match for the Sailfish.
 
UNA was able to avoid the shutout with a three-set win of its own at No. 3. Catie Ladner and Mackenzie Martin posted the 21-19, 15-21, 15-11 victory.
 
PBA closed out the match with a win at No. 1
 
UNA will remain on the Stetson campus to face ASUN foes North Florida and FGCU on Saturday.
