FLORENCE – A rally by the University of North Alabama men's tennis team came up one point short on Wednesday as UAB held on for the 4-3 road victory. The loss keeps UNA winless on the season at 0-9 while the Blazers improve to 4-7.

After UAB won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, the Lions won three of the first five singles matches to even the score. The Blazers, however, were able to clinch the match with a three-set victory at No. 5 singles.

After winning the top two doubles positions to grab the early lead, UAB extended its advantage to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. The Lions then got two victories to tie the score.

Fernando Herrera started the Lions off strong with back-to-back 6-2 victories in the No. 2 spot. Next for the Lions Guilherme Diniz then recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 to tie the overall score at 2-2.

After UAB regained the lead with a win at No. 6 singles, Chris Zhang posted a 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 3 position.

The match point was then settled at No. 5, where Nilola Puric outlasted UNA's Nazar Fedoryshyn 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

UNA will play its next match at Austin Peay on March 12. Match time is set at 2 p.m. at the Governors Tennis Center on the ASPU campus in Clarksville, Tenn.
