BEACH LIONS CLOSE STETSON CHALLENGE WITH TWO LOSSES

DELAND, Fla., - The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team closed out play at the Stetson Challenge on Saturday with a pair of losses to FGCU and North Florida. The losses by identical 5-0 scores, leave UNA with a 5-7 record on the season, including an 0-3 mark in ASUN Conference play.

Against FGCU, the Lions fell behind 2-0 after the No. 5 and No. 4 matches were played. The Eagles then clinched the match with a 21-11, 21-9 win at the No. 2 spot.

Catie Ladner and Mackenzie came up short in a three-set thriller. The duo won the opening set 21-11 before falling 21-15, 15-10 at No. 3. FGCU finished the scoring with a win at the top spot.

In the match against North Florida, the Lions again fell behind with a pair of losses at the bottom of the lineup. A 21-12, 21-7 win by the Ospreys at the top position then clinched the overall match.

UNA will return home to host UT-Martin on Wednesday. First serve is set for noon at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts.
