LIONS FALL AT TENNESSEE TECH

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- North Alabama took a 5-0 lead early but couldn't hold it as the Lions eventually fell 19-7 on the road at Tennessee Tech.

UNA, now 6-13 overall, held the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Golden Eagles scored eight runs off three UNA pitchers.

The Lions left 11 runners on the base against Tennessee Tech as TTU improved to 14-5.

In the top of the first, Luke Harper walked and stole second before Austin Thrasher was hit-by-pitch. After a double steal, Reid Homan singled to drive in both runners. Homan then scored on a Devne Daniel RBI-double. With the hit Daniel successfully reach base in his 19th straight game, tying a UNA Division I era record.

The Lions got two more runs in the third when Homan was hit-by-pitch and Daniel blasted a two-run home run.

Tennessee Tech got on the board in the bottom of the third on an Ed Johnson homer, then took a 9-5 lead with the eight-run fourth inning.

After the Golden Eagles got two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 11-5, UNA got a run back on a Quinn Petty home run. The Lions then added another run in the top of the seventh when Daniel singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Hudson.

Tech scored two more runs in the seventh and six in the eighth to extend its lead to 19-7.

UNA was out-hit 18 to 10 in the game.
Daniel led UNA at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.

UNA reliever John Lundgren (0-1) took the loss for UNA. Austin Nichols started and went three and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Lundgren then allowed four runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter, without retiring a batter. Four other Lions pitched in the game.

The Lions open a three-game ASUN Conference road series on Friday at Jacksonville State.
