UNA SPLITS FINAL TWO HOME BEACH MATCHES

FLORENCE – After falling 5-0 to UT-Martin, the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team rebounded to post a 5-0 win of its own Wednesday in the final home matches of the 2022 season. The split gives the Lions a 6-8 record on the season.

In the opener, UNA struggled to find answers as the Skyhawks won each of the countable matches in straight sets. The Lions did manage to win the exhibition contest when Caroline Conkle and Kennedy Lane rallied for a 16-21, 21-14, 15-7 victory.

Against Jacksonville State, UNA found its rhythm, sweeping all six matches in straight sets.

Wins at the bottom of the lineup gave the Lions an early lead. Lauren Quigley and Katie Gerig posted a 21-13, 21-17 win at No. 5, followed by a 21-19, 21-19 victory by Allison Temple and Katy Floyd at the No. 4 position.

UNA clinched the match when Catie Ladner and Mackenzie posted a 21-13, 21-15 win at No. 2. Less than a minute later, Natalie Kordt and Jelena Girod recorded a 21-17, 21-16 victory at the top position.

Taylor Seney and Martha McLaurin wrapped up the scoring at No. 3, completing the sweep with a 21-17, 21-19 victory.

UNA will travel to Richmond, Ky., next weekend for four matches at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.
