JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Jacksonville State rallied from a 2-1 deficit to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and take a 3-2 win over North Alabama in ASUN Conference baseball action.
After T.J. Reeves hit a solo home run to left field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game, Carson Crowe walked and eventually scored the game winning run when the Lions' dropped what appeared to be a routine fly ball to right field that would have ended the inning.
In the low scoring game, the two teams combined for just 10 hits, and 27 batters struckout.
UNA falls to 6-15 overall and 1-4 in ASUN play. Jacksonville State improves to 10-11 overall and 5-0 in the ASUN.
North Alabama got on the board first with a run in the third inning.
Peyton Thomas singled, was sacrificed to second by Dominique McIntyre and scored on an RBI-single by
Austin Thrasher.
The Lions loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth inning but were unable to score. The Gamecocks then scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
In the top of the eighth, UNA went on top when McIntyre walked,
Luke Harper singled and both moved up on a throwing error on a pick-off attempt at first base. McIntyre was then able to score on ground-out by Thrasher to give UNA a 2-1 lead.
UNA starter
Will Haberstock allowed just one run in five and two-thirds innings, while walking two and striking out 10. UNA reliever
Austin Emener, who came on with two outs in the sixth inning, held the Gamecock bats silent until until Reeves' homer in the ninth. Emener (0-1) took the loss, despite allowing just one earned run on two hits over three innings. He walked two and struckout five. Â
