UNA BEACH VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAIR FROM UT-MARTIN

MARTIN, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team picked up two victories on Tuesday, sweep a pair of matches at UT-Martin. The 4-1 and 3-2 wins gave UNA a 12-10 record on the season.

In the opener, UNA rallied from an early 1-0 deficit with four straight victories. After UTM grabbed an early lead at the No. 4 position, Lauren Quigley and Katie Gerig held on for a 21-16, 14-21, 15-6 win at No. 5 to even the score.

Another three-set victory gave the Lions the lead for good. Taylor Seney and Allison Temple outlasted the Skyhawk duo 21-13, 20-22, 15-13 at No. 3 to give UNA a 2-1 lead. Catie Ladner and Mackenzie Martin then clinched the match with a 25-23, 21-13 victory at the No. 2 spot.

UNA wrapped up the scoring with a three-set win at the top spot. Jelena Girod and Natalie Kordt rallied for an 18-21, 22-20, 15-12 victory.

In the second match, the two teams again split points at the bottom of the lineup. Quigley and Gerig gave the Lions an early lead with a 26-24, 21-18 victory. The duo won their seventh consecutive match, improving to 9-5 on the season, including a perfect 8-0 showing at No. 5.

After the Skyhawks tied the score with a victory at No. 4, UNA was able to clinch with wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions. UTM wrapped up the scoring with a victory at the top spot.

UNA will travel to Birmingham next weekend for three matches at the UAB Blazer Beach Bash. The Lions will open play against the host Blazers Friday at 4 p.m. before facing Mercer and Louisiana-Monroe the following day.
