LIONS ADD TRIO ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team added three players on Wednesday, including two transfers and an incoming freshman. KJ Johnson, Daniel Braster and Jacari Lane all signed to play for the Lions.

Lane will graduate from Lee High School in Huntsville after a standout prep career. The 6-1 guard was the al.com Tennessee Valley Player of the Year after leading the Generals to a pair of Class 5A state championships. The AHSAA first team All-State selection averaged 21.9 points per game and was a finalists for the Alabama Class 5A Player of the Year.

"We are excited to add Jacari to our program," said UNA men's basketball head coach Tony Pujol. "He is a proven winner and his ability to command his team and score the ball will be a great addition to our program."

Braster comes to UNA from Lamar State College in Port Arthur, Texas. The 6-8 forward averaged 14.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as the Seahawks finished the season with a 20-12 record. The Old Westbury, N.Y., native led the NJCAA Region 14 in rebounding and double-doubles.

"Daniel is extremely skilled for his size," said Pujol. "We are excited to add someone with his size, length and playmaking ability to the program. The most exciting part is we will get him for three years."

After playing two seasons at ASUN Conference rival Lipscomb, Johnson will play his final two years at UNA. The 6-3 guard from Lewisburg, Tenn., averaged 10 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season for the Bisons. He has scored 861 career points, dished out 204 assists and was a member of the 2021 ASUN All-Freshman Team.

"KJ is a big-time addition to our program," Pujol added. "Not only has he already had a tremendous amount of success in the ASUN, but his game fits perfectly with our style of play. His ability to get to the rim and find open teammates will be exciting to watch for Lions fans."

The trio will join fellow new additions Aidan Kuhl and Bryson Dawkins, who signed during the early signing period in November. Kuhl was a Class 5A second team All-State selection in Colorado. He led the state in scoring at 24.7 points per game for Rocky Mountain High School.

Dawkins, a Class 5A first team All-State pick from Carroll High School in Ozark, Ala., averaged 22.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during his senior season. He was named the Southeast Regional MVP as the Wolves advanced to the Final Four.
