BIRMINGHAM – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team scored the first three points to clinch a 3-2 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday in the final day of the UAB Blazer Beach Bash. With the win, UNA closes the regular season with a 13-12 record and will now turn its attention to the upcoming ASUN Conference Tournament.
Against the Warhawks, wins at the bottom of the lineup gave UNA a 2-0 lead. Taylor Seney and Allison Temple then clinched the match by rallying for a 17-21, 21-8, 15-10 victory at the No. 3 spot. ULM wrapped up the scoring with wins a the top two positions.
North Alabama grabbed the early lead at No. 5 when Lauren Quigley and Katie Gerig held on for a 26-24, 21-19 victory. Another three-set win by the Lions extended the lead to 2-0 when Katy Floyd and Martha McLaurin picked up a 21-14, 19-21, 15-11 victory at the No. 4 spot.
The 2022 ASUN Conference Tournament will be held April 22-24 in Huntsville and feature all 12 teams. The conference office will seed teams 1-12 and set the tourney schedule that features two rounds of pool play before beginning a single-elimination format. Official seedings will be released by the ASUN on Sunday.
