LIONS DROP SECOND GAME OF ASUN SERIES AT EKU

RIICHMOND, Ky. -- North Alabama scored seven runs on 13 hits but it wasn't enough at the Lions dropped the second game of an ASUN Conference baseball series at Eastern Kentucky, 15-7.

With the loss, UNA is now 9-27 overall and 2-15 in the ASUN. EKU improved to 25-13 overall and 11-6 in the conference.

UNA went on top with a run in the first inning. EKU then scored in the next three innings to take a 4-1 advantage. After UNA tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth, the Colonels scored five in the bottom of the inning and added four more in the sixth for a 13-4 lead. The Lions added three more runs but couldn't close the gap as EKU held on for the 15-7 win.

In the first inning, Luke Harper hit a leadoff home run to put UNA on top 1-0.

In the fifth, Cal Cook walked and Garrett Smith and Harper singled to load the bases. An Austin Thrasher single scored Cook and a Devne Daniel single drove in Thrasher and Jonathan Lane, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

In the UNA seventh, Harper singled and later scored on a Daniel RBI-single.

Then in the eighth, Drew Hudson and Zak Majer both singled and eventually scored. Hudson came in on a throwing error and Majer scored on a Thrasher RBI-single.

Harper was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Daniel was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Thrasher was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in.

UNA starter Will Haberstock (2-6) took the loss. He allowed six runs on four hits over four innings. He struckout five batters. Caden Barnett allowed three runs in the fifth inning without recording an out, Carson Howard gave up four runs in an inning and two-thirds and John Lundgren allowed two runs over the final two and a third innings.

The Lions and Colonels play the final game of the series on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
