LIONS DROP DOUBLE-HEADER AT BELLARMINE

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama baseball team's bats couldn't keep up with the offensive production by Bellarmine Saturday as the Lions dropped an ASUN Conference double-header to the Knights, 18-3 and 17-3.

With the losses, UNA is now 8-21 overall and 2-9 in ASUN Conference play. Bellarmine improved to 5-25 overall and 3-8 in the league.

The Lions and Knights play the final game of the series on Sunday.

In the opener, Bellarmine scored in each of the first four innings and took a commanding 17-0 lead through four innings. With a run in the sixth, BU led 18-0 before UNA's Jonathan Lane hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to prevent a shutout and make the final count 18-3.

UNA starter Jacob Bradshaw (1-6) took the loss, allowing nine runs on eight hits over three innings. Carson Howard gave up eight runs in one inning of work and Caleb Barnett allowed a run on one hit over the final two innings.

UNA was out-hit 17-5 in the loss.

In the second game of the double-header, Bellarmine again jumped out to a quick lead with four runs in the second inning, five in the third and two in the fourth for an 11-0 advantage.

UNA got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when Quinn Petty singled and later scored on a two-run home run by Austin Thrasher.

The Knights got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, added two more in the sixth for a 14-2 advantage.

In the top of the seventh, Luke Harper singled with two outs and scored on an Austin Thrasher double to make it 14-3.

Bellarmine scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh and added two more in the eighth to make it 17-3.

UNA starter Will Haberstock (2-4) took the loss, allowing 11 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits over three and a third innings. Will Morris allowed four runs on seven hits over three and two-thirds innings.

The 22 hits allowed by the Lions in the second game were the most allowed by a UNA team in the Division I era.
