FLORENCE, Ala. –
Devne Daniel delivered a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift North Alabama to a 5-4 ASUN Conference baseball win over Bellarmine at Mike Lane Field.
Down 4-3 in the eighth inning, UNA scored the tying run to set the table for the dramatic finish.
In the ninth,
Levi Jensen and
Austin Thrasher both walked and, with two outs, Daniel ripped a line drive down the left field line to bring home the winning run.
With the win, UNA is now 11-37 overall and 4-22 in the ASUN. Bellarmine drops to 11-38 overall and 8-18 in the conference.
Bellarmine went on top with a run in the second inning but UNA tied it in the bottom of the frame.
Drew Hudson singled, went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on an error. He scored on a sacrifice fly by
Levi Jensen.
The Knights scored two runs in the top of the fifth but the Lions rallied again to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
Peyton Thomas singled and
Austin Thrasher reached on a fielder's choice before
Reid Homan delivered a two-run double.
Bellarmine went back up 4-3 in the sixth and UNA tied it in the eighth.
Reid Singewald singled and
Cal Cook drove him in with a triple to tie the game at 4-4.
UNA's
Caden Barnett (1-0) got his first win, allowing just one hit and two walks over three innings.
The Lions and Knights play the final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
