RECORDS FALL DURING LIONS 2022 SOFTBALL SEASON

6/2/2022 2:29:00 PM

FLORENCE – Following the conclusion of the 2022 season, the University of North Alabama softball team broke or tied a total of 41 team and individual school records at the single-game, single-season and career levels. UNA finished its fourth and final year of its four-year Division I transition with a 40-20 campaign that included a 2-2 showing at the National Invitational Softball Championships.

At the team level, the 40 victories is the most at the Division I level for UNA. Other notable single-season records set by the Lions include a .319 batting average, 1,686 total at-bats, 377 runs scored, 537 hits, 338 RBI, 83 doubles, 73 home runs, 180 walks and 60 stolen bases. The 537 hits is the third-highest total in the nation and is second in UNA history only behind the Lions' 2016 Division II national championship team that collected 645 hits on the year.

UNA's neutral-site games against Jackson State on Feb. 19 and Tarleton State on May 9 represented the majority of the new single-game records. Against Jackson State, the Lions recorded 39 at-bats, 18 hits and six doubles to set new Division I highs. The Lions also had 18 hits against Tarleton to open play at the NISC and added record totals of 18 runs, 18 RBI and seven home runs.

Individually, UNA set 11 single-season records, including five by Emma Broadfoot. The sophomore from Danville set new school Division I records with a .388 batting average, 69 hits, 61 RBI, 15 doubles and 31 walks.

Harley Stokes also placed her name into the record books at both the Division I, as well as the all-time program levels. The fifth-year senior from Demopolis became UNA's all-time home run leader this season and wrapped her career with 54 homers. That total including 19 home runs this season to tie Brooklynn Clark (2015-16) for the most ever in a single season. Stokes also finished the season with a UNA Division I record of 50 runs scored.

Rounding out the list of individual single-season records broken on the year were Hailey Jones (196 at-bats), Maci Birdyshaw (18 pitching victories and 156.2 innings pitched) and Lexie Harper (18 stolen bases). Harper also finishes her four-year career as the program's all-time leader with 56 stolen bases and 60 attempts.

At the single-game level, UNA tied a trio of records. Brooke Burback recorded four hits at Lipscomb while Harper did the same against Austin Peay and Saint Louis. The single-game record of two doubles was equaled by Jones, Broadfoot (twice) and Haven Kirby (twice). Stokes, Burback and Georgia Land also each homered twice in a game to tie a Division I single-game mark for the Lions.
