FLORENCE, Ala. -- After the start of the match was delayed for almost three hours due to lightning, the University of North Alabama women's soccer team put up its highest goal count since 2018 with a 5-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
With the win, North Alabama remains unbeaten through the first six matches of the season with a 3-0-3 record.
UNA also recorded its fifth shutout of the season and has not allowed a goal in the last 346 minutes of play.
"After the adversity of the long delay, the girls could have come out without any energy, but they were the opposite," said UNA head coach
Chris Walker. "It was a great team win, we got to play 99 percent of our roster, we scored some goals and we got another shutout. It was a great effort."
North Alabama senior
Alice Bussey opened the scoring with her third goal of the season at the 12:07 mark off an assist from
Izzi Gurney.
Gurnry then scored her third goal of the year at 31:30 on an assist from
Hannah Guthrie to make it 2-0.
Bussey netted her fourth goal of the season and second of the match in the 58th minute off an assist from
Kate Wiseman.
Olivia Anderson scored on a penalty kick at the 61:22 mark to make it 4-0, and the final goal was put in the net by
Alana Watts out of a scrum in front of the net.
UNA goalkeeper
Payton Yates recorded her fifth shutout of the season and has an individual streak of having not allowed a goal in the last 346:15 that she has been in goal.
North Alabama plays at Chattanooga on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
