WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RELEASES 2022-23 SCHEDULE

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team will host 15 home games and play on the road at a trio of Power 5 teams during its 2022-23 season. UNA head coach Missy Tiber has released the schedule for the upcoming season. The Lions will enter the year as a full Division I member and will be eligible for the NCAA Tournament.

"Our schedule this year is a good mix of competition," said Tiber, who enters her 10th season at the helm of the program. "The major highlights are the 3 Power 5 schools, Mississippi St, Ohio State and Pitt, but we also have some regional opponents that will help get us prepared for the conference schedule like Alabama A&M, Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Georgia State and Chattanooga."

UNA will open the season at home on Nov. 7 against old Gulf South Conference rival Christian Brothers. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. at Flowers Hall and will feature local elementary school students in attendance.

Road trips to Mississippi State (Nov. 11), Southern Miss (Nov. 19) and Ohio State (Nov. 27) highlight the first month while the Lions also host La Verne on Nov. 13 and Alabama A&M on Nov. 22.

Three straight home games will kick off the month of December. UNA will host Fisk, Arkansas State and Chattanooga before traveling to Georgia State on Dec. 19 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 21 to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.

"The conference slate will look a bit different than usual due to a larger number of teams so we were given a new model for this year only," added Tiber. "There are a couple back-to-backs with FGCU and Central Arkansas, which will be interesting and challenging. Overall, I'm happy with the layout and believe our experience will help get us going early."

UNA opens ASUN play at Lipscomb on Jan 2 in Nashville, Tenn. ASUN newcomers Austin Peay and Queens will both visit Flowers Hall this season. ASPU comes to town on Jan. 21 for a 5 p.m. tip-off. The Lions will also host Queens on Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
