KILLEN, Ala. (October 17, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team took home the team title in the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Ala. Henry Frizzell and Eric Luo both finished in the top five individuals to help power the Lions to their first team victory of the season.
 
The victory serves as the first under Schmitz Family Men's Golf Head Coach Austin Phillips in just his fourth match at the helm. This is the Lions' ninth-ever victory at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club with the most recent win coming in the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational last spring.
 
The North Alabama "B" team finished not far behind, taking home fourth place out of 11 squads. Corey Maher and John Logan displayed impressive performances, both finishing in the top 10 golfers across the board.
 
The team title was powered by a three-round total of 844 — the best UNA three-round mark through four tournaments so far this season. The Lions posted rounds of 279, 280 and 285 on their way to place ahead of Auburn's B team, Troy's B team, Purdue Fort Wayne, Southeastern Louisiana, Samford, Rollins, Lindenwood, Western Illinois and Alabama A&M. Alabama and Vanderbilt also had individuals in the tournament.
 
Frizzell led the squad with a 10-under par 206 total, placing fourth. Luo followed Frizzell closely with a 207 for a fifth place finish. Andrew Ferworn tied for 19th with a 216 total, while Sebastian Bengtsson finished one stroke behind Ferworn, tied for 22nd with a 217. Sophomore Chase Kaiser tied for 46th place with a 225 three-round card.
 
Corey Maher led the North Alabama "B" squad that placed fourth behind just Auburn's B team and Purdue Fort Wayne. Maher turned in a scoreline of 67-69-73=209. John Logan also pulled out a top 10 finish, tying for eighth place with a 212 total. Dawson Garrett closed out the third round with a 218, while Niko Nebout's third-round 72 tied him for 30th. Cory Abbott rounded out the second team with a 243, placing 66th.
 
The Lions face a quick turnaround before traveling to Nassau, Bahamas to participate in the  White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational on Oct. 20-22.
