ATLANTA (November 8, 2023) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its academic awards for cross country on Wednesday afternoon, as University of North Alabama senior
Sage Betts was one of seven runners from the league to make the team.
The Academic All-ASUN Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All members of the team boast a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better and participated in at least half of their team's meets.
Betts is a four-year member of the cross country program. She ran in five meets this season to put her at 18 career meets heading into this weekend's NCAA South Regional. In 2020, she was named ASUN Freshman of the Week after placing second in the Martin Methodist Invitational.
This season, Betts recorded a personal record time of 19:30.68 at the UNA Invitational to finish 10th overall in a team victory for the Lions. She has three top 10 finishes in her career.
In the classroom, Betts owns a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in nursing. She is one of six ASUN runners to make the Academic All-ASUN team with a perfect 4.0.
The Lions will compete in the NCAA South Regional on Friday, Nov. 10 in Gainesville, Fla. to wrap up the fall season.
