JOHNSON SCORES 22 TO LEAD UNA WIN OVER LIPSCOMB

FLORENCE, Ala. -- K.J. Johnson scored 22 points against his former team and North Alabama won for the seventh time in its last eight games with an 80-70 win over Lipscomb at CB&S Bank Arena.

Johnson, a transfer from Lipscomb prior to the 2022-23 season, sparked a late run in the first half that put UNA up 36-32 at intermission, then directed the Lions' attack as they outscored the Bison 44-38 over the final 20 minutes.

North Alabama is now 16-11 overall and 8-6 in ASUN Conference play.

Lipscomb got off to a fast start and led by six at 16:29 of the first half. Later in the half, UNA went on a 12-0 run and never trailed again, leading for more than 29 minutes of the contest. UNA's largest lead was 17 points with 9:33 left in the game.

The Lions dominated in the paint, scoring 46 point inside, including 17 points off turnovers to just four for Lipscomb.

Freshman Jacari Lane added 19 points to the UNA attack  and Daniel Ortiz had 17. Rebounding was even at 33 each, with Eoin Nelson leading the Lions with six.

The Lions only made three of their 13 three-point attempts were 49.2 percent from the floor overall.

With four games remaining on its regular season, UNA travels to Bellarmine on February 16 for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff against the Knights.
