NASHVILLE, Tenn. --
Maci Birdyshaw picked up her second complete-game win of the weekend as the University of North Alabama closed play in the Roar City Invitational with an 8-4 win over Alabama A&M.
After winning both of its games on Saturday, UNA split its Sunday contests, falling 4-0 to Bradley in the morning before bouncing back with the win over the Bulldogs. The Lions finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and are now 6-1 overall.
Against Alabama A&M, Birdyshaw pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 3-0. It was the first time this season that she had allowed a run while in the circle.
UNA backed her with a run in the first inning and two in the second for a 3-0 lead. After the Bulldogs got a run in the bottom of the third, UNA added a run in the fourth and four more in the seventh for an 8-1 lead. A&M fought back with three runs in the seventh before the Lions could stop the rally.
In the first inning,
Felicity Frame singled and scored on a
Hailey Jones RBI-doube. Then in the second,
Ryleigh Boyett and
Jaiden Farnetti both walked and moved up on a passed ball. A
Taylor Brown sacrifice fly drove in Boyett and Farnetti scored on a Frame RBI-single.
Farnetti walked with one out in the fourth inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

Sidney Bevis began the seventh inning scoring outburst with a double. Jone singled and
Georgia Land singled in a run. A
Mckenzie Patterson single kept the rally going and
Brooke Burback singled in two runs. A
Becca Benton sacrifice fly drove in the final run. Â
In the first game of the day, North Alabama got behind early and never recovered in a 4-0 loss to Bradley, a team the Lions had picked up a run-rule 12-0 win against the day before.
Bradley got a run in the first and added one in the second and two in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. UNA managed just six hits in the game, led by
Sidney Bevis with two.
UNA starter
Hannah Price (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits over four innings in the circle. She didn't walk any batters and struckout three.
Mariyn Waterman came on in relief but allowed two runs on three hits without retiring a batter.
Elena Escobar pitched the final three innings and held Bradley scoreless, allowing just one hit. Â
North Alabama will begin play in the Samford Bulldog Classic in Birmingham on Friday, February 25 against the host Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m.
