FLORENCE, Ala. -- The No. 2 pair of
Katy Floyd and
Mackenzie Martin provided the margin of victory twice on Friday to lead the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team to a pair of 3-2 wins over Austin Peay at the UNA Beach Volleyball Complex.
In the opening match, Austin Peay took the first two pairs at No. 4 and 5. The Lions then got a resounding win at No. 3 from
Martha McLaurin and
Selma Robinson and a narrow 21-19, 23-21 win at No. 1 from
Taylor Seney and
Paula Klemperer to tie it at 2-2. Floyd and Martin had lost the first set but rallied to force a third set and took it 15-10 to give the Lions the team match win.
In the second match of the day, UNA got a three-set win at No. 5 from
Abby Robertson and
Kati Anderson that would prove crucial. Austin Peay won at No. 4 and McLaurin and Robinson again got a straight set win to put UNA up 2-1. Austin Peay tied the match with a three-set win at No. 1, taking the final set 15-13.
That left it up to Floyd and Martin again, and they pulled through with a 21-15, 21-19 straight set win.
UNA will play Austin Peay against Saturday at 11:00 and will host Liberty at 1:00 p.m.
