PDF UNA Season Stats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It took a third set loss in the third match of the day to stop the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team just shy of the semifinals with a 3-2 loss to second seeded North Florida.
 
Earlier in the day, the Lions were two points away from an upset of top seeded Stetson but were put into the loser's bracket with a 3-2 loss. UNA then rebounded to pound Austin Peay 4-1 and setup the match with North Florida.
 
Against UNF, the Ospreys took quick wins at the No. 4 and 5 pairs but North Alabama won at No. 1 and No. 3. That left the fate of the match with the No. 2 pair, where UNF's  Presley Murray and Madison Espy out-dueled UNA's Katy Floyd and Mackenzie Martin for the 15-21, 21-18, 15-11 win.
 
With the loss, UNA completed the most successful season in school history with 20 wins and a 20-16 record.

The Lions' first-team All-ASUN Conference pair of Paula Klemperer and Taylor Seney went 4-0 in the tournament and closed the season with 14 wins in their last 15 matches. 
 
In the opening match of the day against top seeded Stetson, the Lions were narrowly turned away from an upset of the defending champions, falling 3-2. UNA won the first set in three of the five matches and two of the matches were decided by two points in the decisive third set.
 
Stetson got a straight set win at the No. 5 pair and UNA counted with a 23-21, 21-12 win at No. 1 by Paula Klemperer and Taylor Seney. It was the pair's second win over Stetson this season.
 
UNA's No. 3 pair fell 21-13, 21-16 to give Stetson a 2-1 advantage, and the Hatters got the third and deciding point when Audrey Gauthier and Noelle Weintraub squeezed out a 20-22, 21-13, 15-13 win at No. 4 over UNA's Natalie Kordt and Jelena Girod.
 
North Alabama's No. 2 pair of Katy Floyd and Mackenzie Martin knocked the ASUN Pair of the Year, Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike 21-18, 19-21, 19-17 to make the final count 3-2.
 
In the second match against Austin Peay, UNA made quick work of the Governors for their fifth win over APSU this season.
 
The Lions got straight set wins at the top four pairs, losing only at No. 5.
