ONEONTA, Ala. (September 26, 2023) – The Graeme McDowell Invitational came to a close on Tuesday afternoon at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala. as the University of North Alabama men's golf team finished sixth with two individuals in the top 20.

The Lions finished with a final score of 286-287-290=863 to finish one stroke under par, defeating in-state foe Troy by three strokes and Louisiana Monroe by four strokes.

Host school UAB won the tournament with a 290-268-284=842 to finish 22-under-par, followed closely by Lamar (-18) and Oral Roberts (-12). Louisiana (-6) and Jacksonville State (-5) rounded out the top five, while UNA was the only other school in the field of 14 to finish under par as a unit.

Entering the day tied for first place after tying a Division I era record for lowest round yesterday at 65, freshman Andrew Ferworn ended the tournament in 10th place with a final card of 69-65-76=210.

Sophomore Eric Luo moved into a tie for 16th with back-to-back rounds of two-under-par 70 in rounds two and three, as both he and Ferworn turned in four birdies on Tuesday. Fellow sophomore Sebastian Bengtsson had his lowest round of the tournament with an even par on Tuesday to finish T-38 at four-over-par 220. Bengtsson came into the turn at one over, but recorded a pair of birdies and one bogey to flip his round back even.

Seniors Henry Frizzell and Dawson Garrett finished alongside sophomore Corey Maher to round out UNA's lineup. Frizzell and Garrett each shot three-over-par 75 on the final day, while Maher wrapped up with a one-over-par 73. Frizzell led the group T-51 at 71-77-75=223, followed by his teammates at T-62 just two strokes back. The trio combined for 10 birdies, including four each from Maher and Garrett.

The Lions return home for their next tournament — the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point — set for Oct. 16-17 in Killen, Ala.
