NOTES
Meeting History: The Lions will be taking on the Hornets for only the second time in school history in volleyball. Nearly a full calendar year ago, UNA squared off with ASU on Sept. 7, 2022 in the friendly confines of CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall and swept the Hornets 3-0 in the single-game match.
Scouting the Hornets: Alabama State (0-6) is coming off an appearance at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla., hosted by the University of Central Florida of the Big 12. In their three matches, they were defeated by ACC member Wake Forest 3-1 and 3-0 to both Conference USA member Florida International (FIU) and UCF. Statistically, the Hornets are led by graduate middle blocker Talia Gaines, who leads the team with 41 points. The transfer from Jackson State has 25 kills, two assists and four service aces for the season on offense, but her real contributions are at the net on the defensive side. To go with her 10 digs, she leads the Hornets with 17 blocks and is second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in the category. Alabama State is coached by Penny Lucas-White in her 13th season.
