GAME NOTES
NOTES
ABOUT LAST GAME: UNA dropped its final match at the Florence Sportsplex this regular season, as the Lions fell to Jacksonville in ASUN Conference action Thursday, 2-0. In the previous two games, the Lions set their season-high in shots with 17 against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. UNA had a 10 shot first half and coupled it with a nine shot second half to create a new season-high of 19. Jacksonville started fast with a couple shots before the 17th minute that gave junior goalkeeper
Allanah Blye two of her six saves. North Alabama had three shots, as well, two coming from junior captain midfielder
Molly Parham and senior forward
Haley Patterson. Patterson comfortably leads the team in shots this season with 24. Jacksonville was the first to strike off a Logan Gonzales goal. Gonzales added another goal in the 55th minute from a penalty kick.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams. The Lions are 1-2 in this matchup with the only win coming last season. This is the first time playing in back-to-back seasons for the two teams. The winning team has come away with a shutout against the other. North Alabama won the lone game when they had more corner kicks than the Ospreys.
SCOUTING THE OSPREYS: The Ospreys come to Florence with a 5-3-7 record and a 2-1-4 record to sit seventh in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings. They have a remarkable win over Miami to begin the season, 1-0. Then followed it up with a 10-0 loss to Florida State. The most remarkable is that they have tied in each of their previous four matchups. Even more remarkable is that each game has ended in a 1-1 tie for their ASUN games. Two have been away and two have been home games.
COX CREEK OPENER: The University of North Alabama began construction on a new on-campus facility, Bank Independent Stadium, which will house the football and soccer teams starting in 2026. Throughout the 2024 season, the Lions have been housed at the Florence Sportsplex for home matches, which sports a grass field. The final game of the 2024 season at the Florence Sportsplex came against Jacksonville on Thursday night. This will be the first game at the brand new turf facility located on Cox Creek at the Sports Complex that houses the UNA Softball facilities. The Cox Creek Sports Complex features new FieldTurf.
GETTING CLOSER: Head coach
Chris Walker is on the way to eclipsing the century mark for his career in wins. Since he has been at UNA, he has accomplished a 97-92-23 overall record in his 12 years and is three wins shy of his 100th career win. He is 14 away from tying former Lion head coach Graham Winkworth's all-time record of 111 wins.
NEXT GAME: After a four-game home stand, North Alabama gets back on the road Thursday, Oct. 17 against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. at 6 p.m.
