Women’s Tennis brings home 17 wins at Chattanooga Invite

Lions have solid showing in final fall outing in Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (November 12, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team took home 17 wins in the 2024 fall season finale at the Chattanooga Invitational.

The Lions made their second-consecutive trip to Tennessee, ending the pre-championship campaign with another double-digit victory outing. UNA faced off in four doubles and two singles duals, taking the 17 victories out of 22 matches against Jacksonville State, hosts Chattanooga and Atlantic Sun Conference foe Bellarmine. North Alabama swept all their matches in its Bellarmine doubles and Chattanooga singles outings, while taking the majority or splitting results in the rest of the matches.

First facing Jacksonville State, the Lions opened with two wins in the opening doubles matches. Senior Anoek Pruijmboom and junior Eeva Ristola earned the first win in a 7-5 win over Polina Ramenskaja and Irene Artigas, with sophomores Emma Ansorge and Ada Karabacak taking a 6-2 win against Aneka Patel and Lea Erenda.

North Alabama took four of the six singles matches against the Gamecocks, starting with junior Stanislava Bobrovnikova defeating Artigas, 6-3, 6-3. Karabacak nabbed a second JSU win, defeating Anna Syrova, 7-6(3), 6-4, and Ristola also grabbed a second victory with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Ramenskaja. Sophomore Mathilde Delaney took the final win in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Patel.

North Alabama took on Chattanooga next, dominating the dual by sweeping the singles and splitting the two doubles matches. Bobrovnikova won her second singles match of the weekend against the Mocs, starting with a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 thriller against Rozalie Dohnalova. Karabacak defeated Savannah Presson, 6-4, 6-3, and Ansorge secured her first weekend singles win against Emma Pedretti, 6-1, 6-1. Delaney finished the singles outing with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Margeret Manolache.

The Lions and Mocs each took a match in the doubles, with Karabacak and Ristola the lone victors in a 6-1 win over Presson and Pedretti. Bobrovnikova and Pruijmboom kept it close against UTC's Alice Hall and Dohnalova but narrowly fell in a 7-5 outing.

The rest of UNA's weekend was doubles play, but the Lions continued their winning ways against the Knights and Gamecocks.

The team of Bobrovnikova and Pruijmboom opened with a 6-3 win over Ekaterina Tikhonko and Yeva Kramarova of Bellarmine, and Delaney and Karabacak also picked up a 6-2 victory over the Knights' Marika Caruk and Shu Grosso. Ansorge and Ristola won the final Bellarmine doubles with a 6-2 triumph against Reese Parker and Lillie Parker.

Round two in doubles against Jacksonville State resulted in one more win than the two from the first matchup. Another Bobrovnikova/Pruijmboom win resulted in the first match, with the two winning against Ramenskaja and Artigas, 6-1. Karabacak defeated Patel and Erenda for the second time, this time with partner Delaney in a 6-0 win.

The final win against the Gamecocks came from junior Lena Karlovcan and freshman Peyton Parrish, leaving Tennessee with a 6-4 victory over Syrova and Thomason.

North Alabama Women's Tennis caps the 2024 fall season with 70 wins, but the team has its sights set on 2025 season with high expectations. UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas will now seek the first ASUN Tournament appearance under her leadership this spring, while building on a 2024 season that ended with a Division I program-record 15 wins.
