JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (November 15, 2024) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced the 2025 softball conference schedule this week, as the University of North Alabama will play eight conference series from the middle of March until the beginning of May in 2025.
This summer, the ASUN announced plans to move baseball and softball conference play to a divisional format. For both baseball and softball, the divisions are split into six schools in the Northeast and six schools in the Southeast.
The Northeast Division includes North Alabama, Austin Peay, Bellarmine, EKU, Central Arkansas and Lipscomb. The remaining teams are in the Southeast Division, including FGCU, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens, Stetson and West Georgia.
Each division has four ASUN tournament qualifiers from last season.
Each team in the conference will play three teams in their division twice, while playing the other two teams just once. The Lions will double up with Lipscomb, EKU and Central Arkansas in separate home-and-home series. UNA will also travel to Austin Peay and host Bellarmine. UNA will not face anyone in the other division until the conference tournament, which is set for the week after the regular season.
"The move to a divisional scheduling model for the Baseball and Softball seasons will provide tremendous cost savings to our institutions, will enhance local rivalries, and will improve the experience of our student-athletes," said ASUN Commissioner Jeff Bacon. "Coupled with a regionalized scheduling approach to the 2024-25 Men's and Women's Basketball seasons, these changes demonstrate the commitment of the Atlantic Sun Conference, via our Directors of Athletics and Presidents, to provide an elite student-athlete experience in a fiscally responsible manner. Our conference is in a position of strength and our destination-based membership will continue to work to identify opportunities to accelerate our growth trajectory."
The conference schedule opens at Lipscomb March 15-16, while the home opener is set to take place the following week against Central Arkansas. UNA will travel to defending regular season champion EKU on March 29-30, then will host Lipscomb for the second go-around April 5-6.
The second half of conference play opens at Austin Peay on April 12-13, then the Lions return home for a Friday-Saturday series against Bellarmine at Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium. The Lions stay home April 26-27 for the home finale against EKU, then end the regular season at Central Arkansas May 2-3. The ASUN Championship is set for May 6-10 in Oxford, Ala.
"I'm really looking forward to ASUN play this spring," said UNA head coach
Ashley Cozart, who enters her 12th season in 2025. "There is more parity in our conference than I have seen, and every weekend will be tough. I'm also really looking forward to the conference tournament being back in Oxford, Alabama."
