OXFORD, Ala. (May 6, 2025) – The University of North Alabama softball team wrapped up the 2025 season at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Tuesday in Oxford, Ala. The Lions fell to No. 8 seed Jacksonville by a 6-1 final in single elimination at Choccolocco Park.

The Lions end the year with a 30-21 overall record, marking the 13th straight year without a losing season. The Lions with a winning record in 12 of those seasons while finishing .500 in 2021.

UNA now has a 7-11 record in ASUN tournament games since joining the league in 2019.

Jacksonville (23-26) gained a 4-0 advantage with twin runs in the second and third innings. The Dolphins scored an unearned run in the fifth to extend the lead, while UNA got on the board in the sixth with an RBI double by Laura Leigh Wheeler to score leadoff hitter Gyvan Hammons.

Later in the sixth, the Lions loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate, but a well-fielded groundout at third base ended the threat. JU added one more in the bottom of the sixth to end the scoring.

UNA had six hits on the day, including a two-hit day for senior Ryleigh Boyett. Hammons and Wheeler were joined by sophomore Briley Dover and junior Caroline Cartron in the hit column.

Senior Hailey Jones completed a stellar four-year career on Tuesday, ending the season with a career-best .381 batting average on 67 hits. Jones tied the career school record for at-bats on Tuesday, ending with 713 for her career. She is the career record holder at UNA with 56 doubles.
