FLORENCE, Ala. (March 19, 2024) – The pair of graduate Paula Klemperer and senior Taylor Seney and the pair of junior Katy Floyd and sophomore Selma Robinson are both ranked in the top five of the American Volleyball Coaches Association/CollegeBeachVB.com pair rankings Tuesday.
Klemperer/Seney checked in at fourth among top-flight players in the nation, while Floyd/Robinson are ranked the second-best No. 2 pair. Both are coming off strong outings at the Stetson Invitational, helping improve the Lions' record to 12-4 as a team.
UNA's top two flights led the way to three wins over the weekend, picking up the first Atlantic Sun Conference season victory and wins over Charleston and UNCW.
Klemperer/Seney began the weekend with a 21-18, 21-10 win over Charleston's Maria Zweig and Julia Oravec, following with a 21-16, 17-21, 15-13 victory over UNCW's Gabby LaPata/Sadie Sharkey. The top-flight pair concluded the weekend with a 21-12, 21-18 win over the Atlantic Sun Conference member Jacksonville, beating Anna Erickson and Olivia Szszkiewicz.
Floyd/Robinson were perfect at the Stetson Invite, including a win against No. 18 Stetson. The two started with a win over Charleston's Jasmin Goei and Sofie Vogel, 21-18, 21-10, before ending day one with a 13-21, 21-14, 15-12 victory over UNCW's Maddy Folks and Lyvia Trimp. Day two saw Floyd/Robinson defeat Carolina Ferraris/Audrey Gauthier in a 17-21, 26-24, 15-8 come-from-behind win over the Hatters, rounding out with a tight ASUN win against Jacksonville's Jenna McNamara/Emily Kubicsko (JU) 21-17, 23-21.
The two pairs have had excellent seasons, combining for a 27-3 record. The Floyd/Robinson pair leads the Lions with 14 wins – primarily from the second flight – while all 13 of Klemperer/Seney's wins come from the top flight. They have helped secure first-ever program wins over Power Five opponents Oregon and Nebraska while looking strong in wins against top 25 teams. Klemperer/Seney picked up wins against No. 8 LSU and a Tulane team receiving votes for the national top 20, while Floyd/Robinson recently beat a pair from No. 18 Stetson.
Klemperer/Seney have also been recognized by the ASUN, receiving the first two Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week honors in 2024 – the second and third honors of their career.
UNA prepares to take on the Stacheville Beach Bash from March 22-23, facing three-straight ASUN opponents in EKU, Austin Peay and Central Arkansas. The Lions start with the Colonels on Friday, March 22, at 9 a.m.
