FLORENCE, Ala. (March 20, 2024) – Once a month, the University of North Alabama Department of Athletics features local student-athletes with ties to the Shoals area with the monthly "Homegrown Series" presented by First Southern Bank.
This edition features senior softball player
Sidney Bevis, who prepped at nearby Wilson High School nestled in the northern part of Florence in the unincorporated community of "Zip City."
Bevis won five area championships, two regional titles and led the Warriors to a 2018 Class 4A state runner-up finish while playing for Coach Laura McFall. She also lettered in volleyball and basketball for the Warriors before deciding to play her collegiate softball at UNA.
Bevis has been an everyday starter in right field since her arrival in 2021. She has started 173 games and counting in her four seasons at UNA, including 38 as a true freshman. The all-time record for most games played at UNA is held by another Wilson Warrior, Harlie Barkley, who played in 227 games from 2013-16.
For her career, Bevis is batting .274 with 144 hits, 22 doubles, 93 runs and 60 RBIs. Her career-best season came last year as a junior, where she batted .313 with 52 hits and 31 RBIs. She was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team last season.
