Lions achieve second-highest fall GPA on record in Fall 2025

Sixty-three student-athletes finish with perfect 4.0 GPA; 244 finish above a 3.0 GPA

FLORENCE, Ala. (December 30, 2025) – The University of North Alabama Department of Athletics announced grades for the Fall 2025 semester on Tuesday, as the Lions finished with a 3.25 grade point average.

This marks the 19th consecutive semester with a department GPA above a 3.0 and the 10th consecutive semester above a 3.2. This also marks the second-highest department fall GPA for UNA Athletics on record.

"Academic excellence remains at the forefront of UNA's competitive priorities, and this achievement is a strong reflection of the commitment our student-athletes continue to demonstrate," said UNA Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney. "That success is supported by an outstanding academic environment, led by dedicated faculty, coaches and academic leaders who share a unified vision of excellence and challenge our student-athletes to succeed in the classroom, in competition and in the community."

Over 70 percent of UNA's student-athletes — 244 to be exact — finished with a 3.0 or higher individual semester GPA. Of that group, 63 student-athletes turned in a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The athletic department had 17 graduating student-athletes this fall. Eleven of those earned honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference. Three of those 11 did so with a degree in nursing.

The women's golf program finished with the highest GPA among UNA sports this semester, turning in a 3.75 GPA. This continues a stellar run for the women's golf program academically, who became the first UNA program to have a collective 4.0 GPA in a semester in Spring 2024 and also led with a 3.92 GPA in Spring 2025.

The women's soccer program had the second-highest GPA in the department with a 3.74 to tie the highest-recorded team GPA in program history. The beach volleyball program finished with a 3.71 GPA, followed by women's tennis with a 3.65 GPA, softball with a 3.63 GPA and men's golf with a 3.62 GPA to make up the top six.

The UNA women's tennis program had its highest GPA since the Spring 2019 semester, while the baseball program turned in its highest GPA since Fall 2020.

"A 3.25 department GPA is a significant achievement and a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes," said UNA Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Success Sherry Kennemer. "Their success in the classroom speaks to their commitment, discipline and collaborative support of coaches, staff and the broader university community."
