ATLANTA (March 7, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team received its first postseason honor of the 2023-24 season, with the Atlantic Sun Conference naming sophomore guard Rhema Pegues to the Academic All-ASUN Team Wednesday afternoon.
Pegues earns her first ASUN honor after her selection to the nine-player academic team, which is voted on by the league's sports information directors and academic representatives. She is majoring in Biology and owns a 4.0 GPA.
The honor marks the second time North Alabama has been represented on the academic team and the first since 2021 when Olivia Noah received the distinction.
In her second year with the Lions, Pegues has had a career year, appearing in all 29 regular. season games with four starts. The sophomore averaged 6.6 points per game on 43.6 percent shooting to go with 3.2 rebounds per game, and she was a threat from deep with a career-high 29 three-pointers. Pegues was also solid from the line, shooting 86.7 percent from the stripe to tie the team-lead on a minimum of 15 attempts.
The Olive Branch, Miss. native scored in double-figues seven times this season with a high of 13 points against Alabama A&M on Nov. 29, 2023. Pegues also finished with at least five rebounds seven times, with her season-high at seven against Queens and EKU.
Pegues and North Alabama preps for the ASUN Quaterfinal set for Saturday, March 9 against No. 3 seed Central Arkansas. Tipoff from the Farris Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The rest of the postseason ASUN awards will be announced at 3 p.m. today.
