Women’s Tennis secures 13 victories at ITA Regionals

Five Lions win two or more matches in weekend at Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (October 16, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team captured 13 wins to conclude this week's ITA Southern Regionals on Wednesday in Auburn, Ala.

North Alabama faced some of the top singles and doubles pairs of the region, matching its 2024 performance this week on the campus of Auburn. Five Lions won at least two matches, while three secured three victories.

Leading UNA was junior Louise Booker with four total wins. She earned a team-leading three singles wins while securing one doubles victory with senior Eeva Ristola. Ristola finished with three wins, tallying two additional singles victories.

Freshman Sammie Schouten also registered three wins, and junior Mathilde Delaney tied with freshman Farah Asaad with two victories. Senior Senem Ocal rounded out the week with a singles win over McNeese State.

Monday began with singles qualifiers with North Alabama starting strong with four wins.

Booker opened round one with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over
Kamornwan Kornsila of Southern Miss. Asaad defeated Mississippi State's Chiara Di Genova, 7(8)-6(6), 6-4, and Ocal beat McNeese's Ana Hollweg, 7-5, 6-4. The final win came from Schouten over Samford's Grace Keller, 6-2, 6-2.

Round two saw Booker, Asaad and Schouten earn a second singles win in three entertaining matches.

Booker triumphed over South Alabama's Jade Marie with a dramatic comeback win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Asaad defeated South Alabama's Ava Rath, 6-3, 6-2, and Schouten doubled with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Alabama's Addison Bowman.

Monday also opened the doubles main draw. Booker and Ristola earned a bye, but Schouten and Delaney secured a win over Southern Miss's Gagana Mohan Kumar and Celine Mosteanu due to injury retirement.

Tuesday's doubles draw saw Booker and Ristola advance to the round of 32 in an 8-2 win over Samford's Keller and Laila Fishman.

The main singles draw saw one Lion secure a win. UNA's Delaney rallied to defeat Louisiana Tech's June Vigneron, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In the consolation bracket, Booker and Ristola added another singles victory. Booker was victorious over Southern Miss's Sakura Sudo, 7(8)-6(6), 6-1, and Ristola followed with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 triumph over Jacksonville State's Aneka Patel.

In Wednesday's main doubles draw, Booker and Ristola bowed out with LSU's Addison Lanton and Kinaa Graham defeating the two, 8-2. Despite the defeat, Ristola ended on a high note later that day in a 6-4, 6(4)-7(7), 10-5 triumph over Di Genova in pick-up matches.
