NOTES

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 14th all-time meeting for the two programs dating back to 2000. The Lions are 4-9 against ASUN foe Lipscomb. Unlike other divisional opponents, the Lions have seen the Bison twice in a season before — thanks to the 2018 and 2023 ASUN postseason tournaments. Much like with Austin Peay, this is Lipscomb's first trip to Florence since 2022.

Ten of the previous 13 matchups have come during the Division I era for these two programs. North Alabama visited the Bisons last season where the Lions fell after Lipscomb scored three goals in the second half. Lipscomb added two goals in the final 17 minutes to pad the lead. The Lions and Allanah Blye held Lipscomb to a scoreless first half.

SCOUTING THE BISONS: Lipscomb is the current ASUN Gold Division leader at 8-3-1 – a strong start after winning the ASUN Conference Tournament a season ago. The Bisons come to Florence on a four-game win streak all through conference play. Their most recent loss came against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 3-0. The Bisons are 2-3 on the road with losses to Miami and Florida Atlantic, as well. In their most recent matchup, Lipscomb allowed their first goal in ASUN play to Central Arkansas. The Bisons have been outscoring opponents 11-1 through four conference games. They are the second-best ASUN team according to the NCAA RPI at No. 85 in the nation, trailing only EKU (No. 53) who the Bisons beat 2-0. Bella Carapazza leads the team in shots (23) and shots on goal (13) but is second to Hailey Johnson (6) in goals.

ABOUT LAST GAME: The University of North Alabama soccer team earned its first win of October on Thursday night, defeating Austin Peay by a 2-1 final at the Cox Creek Sports Complex. North Alabama scored a goal in each half to down the Governors for its first win in the all-time series. Freshman forward Meg Welsh opened the scoring in the 38th minute, heading in a set piece for her second goal of the season. Gracie Tyrrell, a junior defender, netted the game-winner in the 74th minute — her first career goal.

A DEFENDER'S DAYDREAM: Junior defender Gracie Tyrrell has been a long-time starter for the Lions dating back to her freshman season in 2023. Outside of one game due to injury, Tyrrell has started in 41 of 42 available games for the North Alabama backline. Over her time, she has accumulated 27 shots with 10 on target. On Thursday evening, Tyrrell laced her first collegiate goal in her career against Austin Peay. The goal came in the 74th minute and made its way past a couple of Governors to become the game winner.

QUADRUPLE-DOUBLE: The Lions and Bisons soccer programs have become acquainted with each other rather quickly since North Alabama's Division I transition. The pair have met twice during four of North Alabama's eight seasons in Division I – Kennesaw State is the only other team with multiple seasons of two matchups against the Lions. In UNA's inaugural season, the Lions took the Bisons down to the wire in the ASUN Conference Tournament Championship match before falling 3-2. In 2023, the pair met again as the Lions took a shutout win to bounce Lipscomb from the tournament. Both of those seasons saw the Lions matchup with the Bisons twice – once in the regular season and once in the postseason. This season the Lions get back-to-back chances against the Bisons in the regular season – only happening once before during the abbreviated COVID season.

TO CONFERENCE PLAY!: The ASUN moved to two divisions ahead of the 2025 spring season, meaning teams will only play within the division during the regular season. During post season, each division matches up with the other in the first round, including the top seeds against four seeds and the two seeds against three seeds. All soccer postseason games will be hosted on campus sites by the top two teams in each division.

GOLD AND GRAPHITE: The ASUN Gold Division is where North Alabama will play this season, joining Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Bellarmine, EKU and Lipscomb. The Graphite Division includes FGCU, Jacksonville, Stetson, North Florida, West Georgia and Queens.

NEXT GAME: Following the match against Lipscomb, UNA travels to Lipscomb for a rare back-to-back meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
