FLORENCE, Ala. (October 5, 2025) – The University of North Alabama soccer team fell to Lipscomb 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Cox Creek Sports Complex, ending a two-game home stand.
North Alabama (6-4-3, 2-2-1 ASUN) scored its lone goal in the 80th minute when sophomores
Abigail Witten and
Anna Fugarino connected on a header that found the back of the net.
Lipscomb (9-3-1, 5-0-0 ASUN) scored once in the first half and added two goals in the second to secure the win.
Today was the first multi-goal game the Lions have conceded this season. Goalkeeper
Madison Vukas recorded six saves, while the defense blocked or deflected six other Lipscomb shots.
The Lions took 10 shots, including four on target, and earned five corner kicks.
Nine players contributed to UNA's 10 shots, led by
Lexi Vernsey with two.
Alana Owens,
Alice Bussey,
Adelyn Speight and Fugarino recorded the shots on goal.
In the 80th minute, Witten received a pass up the right side of the pitch as she took on a couple Lipscomb defenders. The sophomore crossed it inside to Fugarino who was able to head it in for the score and her second of the season.
It was only the second goal Lipscomb has allowed in conference play.
The North Alabama rearranged some personnel in this one as defender
Langley Wallace and midfielder
Emerson Nieroda earned starts for the afternoon contest.
Only two Lions — Speight and Vukas — played the full 90 minutes. Defender
Avery Smith logged 86 minutes, the most among the remaining starters. A total of 22 players saw action for UNA.
Next, North Alabama travels to Lipscomb for a rematch on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn.
