TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (October 8, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team is set to compete at the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. from Oct. 9-14.
Fall tennis action continues for North Alabama, journeying to the campus of Alabama for six-day tournament. Eight Lions will compete against the top individual players in the Southern region.
UNA looks to build on the 12 wins from its previous outing at the Battle of the Plains tournament at Auburn. The weekend saw the Lions face top Division I talent, led by junior Alex Despoja taking home five wins.
Junior Izan Orgiles won four matches, and junior Whitman Davis and sophomore Satoru Nakajima secured three victories at Auburn. Senior Lachlan Brain and junior Alberto Altur earned a victory to round out the outing.
ABOUT THE ITA SOUTHERN REGIONALS
North Alabama will be represented by Altur, Brain, Davis, Despoja, Nakajima, Orgiles, sophomore Samu Dominguez and freshman Benjamin Meyers.
The eight Lions will compete in doubles and singles action over the week. The tournament's two singles finalists and doubles champion earn automatic qualification for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship from Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Fla.
The 2024 edition saw North Alabama take home 13 wins on the campus of LSU. UNA excelled with 11 singles wins with two victories in doubles. Altur and Orgiles led with three wins while Davis and Dominguez picked up two wins. Nakajima contributed one singles victory.
