BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (November 10, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team concluded the weekend's Bonita Bay Club Collegiate Open with 10 wins in Bonita Springs, Fla.
The final fall tournament ran from Nov. 7-9, seeing the Lions produce solid results in competition against hosts FGCU, Colorado and Memphis. UNA had six players secure wins with three victorious in both singles and doubles play.
Freshman Sammie Schouten led the weekend with two singles and doubles wins, both coming in matchups against FGCU and Colorado. Junior Emma Ansorge and freshman Farah Asaad tied for second with three wins followed by senior Eeva Ristola and junior Louise Booker with two. Junior Mathilde Delaney rounded out the weekend with a doubles win with Ansorge.
Opening against FGCU, UNA began the weekend strong with two doubles victories. Ansorge and Delaney defeated June Bjork and Ashley Matz, 6-4, with Booker and Schouten claiming a 6-4 triumph over Paloma Goldsmith and Africa Burillo Berezak.
Singles saw Schouten nab the lone win over FGCU in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anjali Kotecha.
Ristola and Asaad began day two with a 6-2 doubles win over Memphis' Sofiia Mykhailets and Emma Dvoracek. Ansorge capped the second day victorious with a comeback win over the Tigers' Natalia Koppova, 3-6, 7(10)-6(8), 10-6.
North Alabama excelled on day three versus Colorado, starting with two doubles wins. Ristola and Asaad claimed their second doubles win in a 6-3 victory over Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson. Booker and Schouten also picked up another win with a 6-4 triumph over Willow Gretsch and Heidi Crncan.
UNA's winning way continued into singles with three Lions earning victories. Ansorge took a 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 win over Lani Brotman, followed by Schouten's 7(8)-6(6), 6-1 win over Nelson. Asaad claimed North Alabama's final weekend win in a 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 triumph over Yukiko Ikedo.
With the fall season complete, North Alabama now sets its sights to the Spring 2026 championship season. The Lions totaled 74 wins in the fall and looks to carry momentum towards another successful campaign led by UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas.
