Volleyball falls in three-set bout to Lipscomb

Lions battle Bisons but fall in road trip opener

NASHVILLE (November 7, 2025) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team dropped a three-set contest Friday night against the Lipscomb Bisons in Nashville, Tenn.

UNA (12-14, 6-7 ASUN) began a four-match road swing against the Bisons (12-11, 8-5), leading to a Senior Day triumph for the hosts. North Alabama and Lipscomb battled in all three sets, but the Bisons fended off late Lion rallies enroute to the win.

Both teams now claim a victory in the season series. UNA swept Lipscomb at CB&S Bank Arena on Sept. 28.

Sophomores Dylann Garner and juniors Kendall Barnes and Nicole Sargent finished as the Lions' kill leaders. Garner tallied nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage. Barnes was second with eight kills with Sargent rounding out with seven on .500 hitting.

Sophomore Kinslee McGowan totaled 26 assists, also tying Sargent for a team-high two service aces. Sophomore Lankford Gurner had seven digs to lead with Barnes and freshman Jenna Kolosta leading with four blocks.

The Lions began with a 3-1 lead in the first set, but the Bisons answered back with a 4-0 run. Lipscomb held the lead then built a 20-12 advantage until North Alabama made it interesting with a responding run. UNA cut Lipscomb's lead to 21-17 before the Bisons saw the set out, 25-19.

Both teams traded points in the second frame before Lipscomb took advantage with a midway run. Tied at 11, the Bisons scored five-straight points for a 16-11 lead. UNA went on a 5-0 run in response to cut the deficit to 16-15. Another back-and-forth scoring spree led to Lipscomb securing the frame with a late run leading 21-20. The Bisons' 4-0 run claimed set two, 25-20.

Lipscomb had its best start in set three, jumping out to a 12-4 advantage. A third-straight UNA rally saw the Lions outscore Lipscomb, 12-6, to cut the deficit to 18-16. Lipscomb answered with a match-sealing 6-1 run en route to a 25-18 set-three win.

The Lions head to Austin Peay tomorrow. First serve from Clarksville is set for 7 p.m.
