Men’s Basketball ends non-conference slate with loss to LMU

Cortez Graham-Howard nets new career-high in scoring

LOS ANGELES (December 19, 2025) – The University of North Alabama men's basketball team faced a tall task to close the calendar year, closing the non-conference portion of the regular season with a 91-57 loss to Loyola Marymount University late Friday night in Los Angeles.

North Alabama ends a tough non-conference schedule with a 5-6 record, including road wins at Jacksonville State and San Francisco earlier this month. The Lions will begin Atlantic Sun Conference play in roughly two weeks on Thursday, Jan. 1.

Three-pointers were the difference, as LMU (8-4) was virtually unstoppable. The home Lions finished 16-32 behind the arc for the most made threes by a UNA opponent since 2021. LMU also shot 50 percent from the field in a hard-to-beat offensive effort. Myron Amey Jr. was crucial to this with 28 points on nine made triples.

For UNA, redshirt junior Corneilous Williams notched his fifth double-double of the season and the 12th of his career. He scored 14 points on 8-11 shooting at the free throw line while grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior forward Donte Bacchus added 12 points.

True freshman Cortez Graham-Howard scored a career-high nine points, while junior Canin Jefferson chipped in eight. Dallas Howell added six on a pair of made three-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half: LMU attacked from behind the arc to start the game, making 3-5 to take a 9-4 lead at the first media timeout. UNA stumbled out of the gates, but were able to get in the bonus with 11:59 remaining in the half. The fouls slowed down both ways after that, while LMU continued firing behind the arc to finish 9-17 for the half. UNA was unable to make a triple in the first half but had seven points from Graham-Howard and six from Jefferson.

Second Half: UNA started the second half with a bit of a flurry, falling behind by as many as 30 before pulling back within 22. LMU maintained the lead with a hard-to-stop offensive effort. Both teams played out the stretch with the benches finishing the game. Graham-Howard and DarKaun King both had extensive minutes with 17 apiece. Howell hit a pair of threes in the second half.
