JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 13, 2025) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its Women's Golfer of the Week awards on Thursday, as North Alabama senior Jahnavi Prakhya was voted for the award for the first time in her career.
The four-year Lion standout finished second place at the Chris Banister Golf Classic earlier this week. The event was hosted by Jacksonville State at RTJ Silver Lakes in Glencoe, Ala.
Prakhya entered 17th on the leaderboard heading into the final day, carding a 15-over despite two days worth of rainy, chilly and windy conditions. No player to this point had recorded a round under par, until Prakhya emerged in the last round.
The senior shot 15 spots up the leaderboard with a two-under-par 70 in the final round. She was the only player in the 43-player field with a minus on her scorecard, driven by five birdies in the final round and eight for the tournament. She birdied the first two holes and stayed below par the rest of the round.
"I'm very proud of her," said UNA head coach Neil Self. "Her final round was spectacular and one of the best of her career."
The only golfer ahead of Prakhya was Samford's Gabi Nicastro, the No. 65 ranked player in the nation according to Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
This is the second golfer of the week award in the program's seven-year history. The first was won by Jackie Klemm on March 9, 2023.
Prakhya has enjoyed some "firsts" for the program since starting her career four years ago, including the first individual win at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in 2022. She is also the only Lion to win postseason awards, earning ASUN All-Freshman in 2022 and Third Team All-ASUN in 2024.
This week, she was ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week along with Stetson's Isaki Sakashita.
The Lions are back in action on Sunday, March 16 for the three-day Bama Beach Bash in Gulf Shores, Ala.
