NOTABLES

THE LINEUP: UNA will play with a different lineup for the fourth time in four tournaments this season, including true freshman Celia Martinez Garcia in the top spot on the card. Junior Olivia Whittle, redshirt senior Kerigan Klauber and true senior Ava Schwartz will provide a veteran presence in the middle of the order, while true freshman Ella Busby rounds things out following a memorable debut last week in Arkansas.

THE FIELD: UNA will join 12 other teams in Mississippi, including a fellow Unisun Sports member from the ASUN in West Florida. A number of in-state schools from Alabama will cross state lines with UNA, including South Alabama, UAB, Alabama State and Samford. The rest of the field includes host school Southern Miss, Jackson State, Lamar, East Texas A&M, Belmont, Tulane and Northern Colorado.

ORDER OF EVENTS: UNA will practice this morning at 10:30 a.m. and will begin the first two rounds Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Round three will be Tuesday at the same time. Hole assignments will be announced prior to Monday's tee time.

THE COURSE: The Hattiesburg Country Club course will span roughly 6,000 yards and is a standard par-72. The course was redesigned in 1999 by Max Maxwell and Nathan Crace and has hosted U.S.G.A. qualifiers, State Amateur Championships, and State Opens. From 1968 until 1993, HCC hosted the PGA TOUR's Magnolia Classic, originally held in April during the same week as The Masters, and as a result, some of the biggest names in professional golf walked among the towering pines lining the course's fairway.

LAST TIME OUT: UNA battled some tough competition last week at the Diamante Intercollegiate in Hot Springs, Ark. and finished 17th with a final score of 905 (+41). Highlights included a career-low for Whittle with a 71 (-1) in the first round, an eagle by Busby in her first-ever collegiate round and a 70 (-2) by Busby in the second round. For Busby, she recorded the second-lowest round by a debuting Lion in program history behind the 69 shot by Jackie Klemm in 2022.

JUDSON REWIND: UNA finished sixth place of 11 teams at this event last season, shooting +37 to defeat the likes of Belmont, Lamar, Austin Peay, Alabama State and Mississippi College; three of the five will be back with UNA this week. Klauber has had success at this course over the years, carding a 70 (-2) in the first round last season and ultimately finishing 23rd overall. She had a 10th place finish here two years ago, ending with three straight birdies in the final round to turn in a final card of 73-74-74 — 220 (+4).
