Beach Volleyball set for ASUN Midseason Invitational

Lions head to Jacksonville for four-dual conference slate

JACKSONVILLE (March 27, 2025) – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team returns to action this weekend with the Atlantic Sun Conference's Midseason Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.

North Alabama embarks its first full weekend of ASUN competition with a roadtrip to Jacksonville. The Lions face two ranked foes in No. 14 Stetson and No. 16 North Florida while also facing Jacksonville and FGCU. UNA looks to continue its winning ways all time against the Dolphins while going for the first all-time wins against the Hatters, Ospreys and Eagles.


The Lions open on Friday, March 28, facing Stetson at 9 a.m. and North Florida at 1 p.m. Day two on Saturday, March 29, kicks off against FGCU at 9 a.m. before concluding against Jacksonville at 1 p.m. The matchups against the Hatters and Ospreys will be hosted by North Florida, with the Eagles' and Dolphins' contests taking place on the campus of Jacksonville.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: After their last outing at UT Martin, North Alabama looks to get back in the win column after narrow defeats to the Skyhawks. After the weekend, the Lions are 9-7 overall with a 1-1 ASUN record. UNA has been on a positive run in its last 10 duals, with North Alabama 7-3 in those contests. The Lions have three pairs with 10+ wins, with senior Katy Floyd and junior Selma Robinson leading from the top flight with a 12-4 record. Graduate Kaitlyn Holbrook and junior Hailey Benesz sport a 10-1 season record from flight five, and sophomore Aurora Bibolotti and freshman Paige Griner have a 10-6 record.

SCOUTING STETSON: The No. 14 Hatters enter the weekend at 14-6 on the season. Stetson went 3-1 in its last outing at the Stetson Beach Blast, taking wins against Erskine, Palm Beach Atlantic and FAU. The Hatters' Katie Camp was named on the 2025 Preseason All-ASUN Team, and Stetson's Marta Carro and Julia Radelczuk are the current ASUN Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week. Kristina Hernandez is the head coach for the Hatters.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE HATTERS: North Alabama and Stetson play in the sixth all-time meeting. The Lions will go for their first all-time win with the Hatters leading the series, 5-0.

SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA: No. 16 North Florida is 13-1 on the season, with the Ospreys also carrying a 4-1 ASUN record. North Florida is on a four-game winning streak, with the last outing resulting in two 5-0 wins against Wingate and Jacksonville. Prior to the Wingate and Jacksonville duals, they took a 4-1 victory over FGCU and a 5-0 sweep over No. 14 FIU. The Osprey pairs are winning 87.1 percent of their matches, and four pairs have 10 or more wins. Madison Espy individually leads North Florida with a 13-1 record. The head coach is Doug Wright.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE OSPREYS: This marks the ninth all-time meeting between the North Alabama and North Florida. The Ospreys lead the series, 8-0.

SCOUTING FGCU: North Alabama faces FGCU to begin the second day of the invitational. The Eagles are 7-9 on the season with a 1-2 ASUN record. The last outing saw FGCU take two wins on Senior Day, defeating Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-1, and Florida Southern, 5-0. Prior to the season, Kaitlyn Luebbers and Nicole De Oliveira were voted to the Preseason All-ASUN Team. The Eagles' head coach is Chris Sweat.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE EAGLES: UNA goes for its first win in the all-time series with the matchup against FGCU. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 7-0, with FGCU victorious in the first meeting this season on Feb. 22.

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE: The final contest for UNA will be Jacksonville. The Dolphins enter the weekend 4-12 on the season. The last outing saw Jacksonville take two 5-0 sweeps against Emmanuel from the Bear Beach Bash at Mercer. The Dolphins had one Preseason All-ASUN Team selection, with Emily Kubicsko receiving the honor. Jacksonville is led by fifth-year head coach Dylan Hough.


SERIES HISTORY VS. THE DOLPHINS:
 North Alabama leads the all-time series against Jacksonville, 6-0. The Lions took both matchups in 2024, defeating the Dolphins once in the regular season and the ASUN Tournament.
