JACKSONVILLE (March 5, 2024) – University of North Alabama sophomore Alberto Altur was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Altur shined in North Alabama's last week of action against Southern Miss, New Orleans and No. 64 Ole Miss. The sophomore went unbeaten in six matches, taking home five wins across singles and doubles play. Altur secured his first career weekly conference honor, also marking the first for Men's Tennis this season.
He went 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles, helping the Lions go 2-1 on the week with two sweeps over Southern Miss and New Orleans.
Against Southern Miss, Altur and partner Izan Orgiles opened with a 6-4 win over Ritabrata Sarkar and Saheb Sodhi from court two. In singles, Altur defeated the Golden Eagles' Ricards Spaks from court five, 6-3, 6-3, to complete his 2-0 outing.
The sophomore earned a second doubles win with Orgiles, taking a hard-fought, 7-6 (7-4) court one triumph over the Privateers' Marc Mail and Sep de Visser. Altur defeated de Visser in singles play, earning a 7-5, 6-0 victory from court five.
Altur concluded the weekend with a top-flight doubles win against Ole Miss. He and partner Orgiles defeated the Rebels' Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn, 6-3.
The sophomore now sports a 5-1 record in doubles and 5-0 record in singles. Altur has won his last four doubles matches, with he and partner Orgiles a perfect 5-0 in doubles on the season.
Altur and the Lions' next outing comes on Sunday, March 9, facing the Chattanooga Mocs at 2 p.m. from the UNA Tennis Courts.
